Beadnell Tosheroon - 2020

Looking towards Dell Point, not sure that you can clearly see the tosheroon in the watery winter sunshine
The tosheroon!
The tosheroon just after I have started scratting, you can see some scrap iron in the foreground, no interest to me!
And after half an hour the pile of scrap iron had grown significantly!
But so had the bag full of non-ferrous finds that were picked out and kept.
This is a pointer, but off what? Dimensionally it looks too dumpy to be from a clock, I thought perhaps an inclinometer or similar from a boat.
A brass RN sailors button, I would have thought that there would be a story behind this, was it from a dead body washed ashore during the wars?
A crushed brass bell! An ornament? It looks too small to be fitted to a door so I really have no idea but again interesting.
A pile of coins! From a modern 20p piece to some very old stuff it collects and stays there until such a time as the sand is moved by a storm
A silver half crown and another later cupronickel alloy 'silver' coin, possibly a florin?
A box full of non-ferrous bits, probably about 2kg of bits destined for a wooden box full of similar bits and pieces that I have in the shed.

More shots of the debris field, later in the year so a 'better' water colour!
I - And after lots of investigation into various oils I opted for high quality Danish Oil rather than Tung oil or similar
Another arty shot of the stringy like Bootlace Weed (Chorda filum) that is found in lower inter-tidal water. Apparently quite tasty too!
A bit of deco after the bounce dive, yes the other guy did make it!
The sternpost of the Mistley is maybe 20 yards away next to a large pinnacle, I guess that she hit the pinnacle before foundering closer to land
Under the rocks here is a large steel flange, possibly part of the conning tower arrangement as it is too small to form part of the hull structure.
'Arty-farty' alert!
The John L coming in for a pick up on quite a blustery day
These fry were hiding close to the surface, I think that they were baby cod (Gadus mordua) but at that size all I can say is that they were of that genus!
A shot showing four rods coming out from the sand clos to the propellor tip, so probably part of the engine mounting arrangement.
I really delayed polishing and you will see that at this stage the trunions were still to be machined from the blank.......
Not really sure what this chain drive will have been uised for, it's in the area of the engine room....possibly part of the ships telegraph arranegment?
Haraaaaaaaaaald! More scrap.
The point where the gun meets the turret
This is a section of hull, you can kinda see that the inside of the hull is on the bottom and comprises of a mesh of flat wooden sections, the actual hull is face up and looks like what it is....flat steel
Debris all around and most unidentifiable, in this case it's a section of hull plating.
A bit of a swim through, if that's your thing, I'm not sure if this is part of the funnel or a 'rippled' section of hull/deck. I suspect it is part of the funnel as there are no signs of beams.
Back quarter shot all done and pre-mounting.
A drain or fluid hole or space for a fuse?
Some sort of dead-eye or similar, this just sits in the middle of one of the gullies
Part of the wreck is covered in a large net, which hanging over the window looks quite nice.
I think part of a mast, I did think prop shaft from a smaller vessel but winter storms revealed that at least one of the ends is sealed.
Looking up inside the conning tower to one of the range finder 'holes', the brass gearing is still in place.
A shoal of immature Bib (Trisopterus luscus) this shoal was always around a particular large rock on the site, not sure why, guess that there is a subtle current split or join?
Not a great photograph but this little critter is a Fifteen Spined Stickleback (Spinachia spinachia) it's really camouflaged and only became apparent when it made a dash for some kelp! A small fish maybe 10cm long I am sure that they are more common than they first appear!
A typical view of the sten section, all plates and beams
The mast going off into 'the gloom'
